Things you need to consider before adopting a Corgi:

  • Intelligent & Active

Smart, but sometimes mischievous. Needs a variety of activities to stay out of trouble.

  • Chewing

Loves chewing to stay busy. If not directed, will chew just about anything. Bones not recommended for these strong chewers.

  • Temperament

Can be ornery and nippy with small children and other dogs especially larger breeds. Often verbal and may bark excessively (“small dog syndrome”).

  • Herding

Known to chase other animals and nip at children’s ankles if they are running, swinging, or playing.

  • Long-bodied

Should always be carried with one arm under the chest and the other under the rump to prevent back injury. Should also be discouraged from jumping up to greet people.

  • Short stature

Loves being close to the ground and getting messy. Some enjoy digging and others are notorious ‘rollers’ who will rub their necks in anything gross they find outside.
